U for Unbroken

She left that night. And no one had thought she had it in her.

Days after days, years after years with lies, threats and fear. They didn't know, they said. That it was so bad. They thought she handled it, they said. His strange way of being. Because they had seen a bit. But done nothing.

She had beat the fear. I had to happen. To save herself.

Like a bird with broken wings she had crawled out the door. With nothing. Nothing but a tiny feeling of self value. Because she was not completely broken. She still had a tiny belief in herself. That she was worth something better. That she was worth not being stepped on. She clinched to that feeling of never giving up, of not to break. And finally she dared to say yes to herself.

She took the chance of failing and thought at least it could not get worse than what she had been through. She decided that she would not break even when she felt entirely and completely broken.

She could heal. She could smile. She decided, yes, she was unbroken. She could feel happy again.

  5. This is so beautiful and power, Eli. No one can make us small and it's depends on our attitudes that make us strong:)

  6. I assume this is a story about a woman leaving an abused relationship, which is hopeful but also more than a little heartbreaking.

I would rather believe this is the story of someone finally deleting their World of Warcraft account after many years and returning to the real world... it's less depressing.

  7. A struggle of a woman, her pain, her fears, her battle, her hope and her faith in herself - are all the words that come to my mind when I read this. Lot of stories can actually fit in this storyline. Let's hope there are more women like her out there

  11. What comes to mind is that (1) this is an inspiring read - fiction or nonfiction (2) a woman who is abused needs a tiny thread of hope to cling to in order to survive and stay strong (3) she deserves better (and all women do!) - no one should be 'stepped on' (4) never giving up on herself is empowering (5) she could heal and feel happy again (7) this is where my life could have ended up as or worse (7) and wonder if it is your story... ;) <3

  12. This reminds me of women who have been too long in a abusive relationship; and when she could take it no more.... she fights back and reclaims her power; sometimes I find strange when women wait for a decade and sometimes more than a decade to realise they deserve a better life and they worth ... its sad but that's the reality what we see around us... when Andhra Pradesh announced the domestic violence act in 2005... there were so many women who came out in the open to file their cases, I was astonished to meet women who were married for 20 to 25 years and it took them so long to see that they lived in an abused relationship. To handle the cases, the government too help of the NGOs to be service providers, and I was part of the counselling team. I love Maya angelou 's quotes.. and thanks for sharing

  13. This is very good. I'm going to tweet it out there for all who live in fear and have "a tiny bit of self worth" still inside, unbroken.

  14. The fact that she wants to be happy again and is trying for it is inspiring in itself.

  15. Good for her! So many women are too afraid to take that step and end up miserable, or worse, dead.
