W for Writing

- If you are a writer you should write, she says. I shut my eyes and ears and pretend not to hear her. - You are suppose to be a writer, so why are you still sitting out here. You have been sitting here on the balcony all afternoon, looking at nothing. You should be at your computer, writing, writing, writing! Haven't you heard that writing generates writing? So the more you write, the more you want to write also!

- I am thinking, I say, - and by the way, I have a writer's block right now. She has never heard of a stupider thing. - Writers block, how can you have a writers block, when you are not writing?! You just just get in there, girl, get going! Start something. Write something. And then the rest will come.

- I am thinking, I say. - Thinking, thinking. She mocks me now. - If you think of something out here now, it is so far to your computer, that you will forget it by the time you get there. Now, move, move. Go and write. Something.

I sigh. She will not leave me alone. And she is right. She knows me so well.

I get up from the chair, and give her a gentle push off my shoulder, my Little Miss Persistent Me - sitting there, suddenly in a delightful mood: - Hey, she smiles, - you going to write? Finally. That's great. Thumbs up.

I head for my computer. - Hey, she yells behind me back, - where are you going. Wait up. Take me with you. But that's ok. There is a wright time for everything:-)

  1. I wrote a similar post for the bar blog, vacant. Writers sit and stare at nothing when they are rejuvenating:)

  2. I have been writing my first book for a year now. maybe longer. I was stuck for so long. Now I am finally editing. So, there is no writer's block as the original words are there.

  4. Writing is therapeutic for me. I think though we all go through periods of brain fade. Best to give it a rest for the day and pick up again later.

  5. I usually write travel posts at night.. but most of my stories and poems are written during the busiest of the days at workplace. Somehow my brain drops in ideas when the deadline at work is nearing :P...

  6. I write for the same reason I exercise: Not because it makes me feel good, but because I feel lousy if I don't.

  8. Dearest Eli,
Well, writing has been always very dear to me; first reading and than writing as I've devoured lots of books in my life. Since I had beautiful handwriting, I also was in charge of writing to family in Australia and far away and I loved to do so. Always studying those stamps from far away countries like Indonesia and Australia and I wanted to go there one day.
Writing to me is just an extension of our thoughts, like our tongue speaks them, our hand(s) can write them. A lot of people are too afraid of jotting down anything in black on white, or any color. For it looks so eternal to them. That never has kept me from not doing it. Also for writing a professional and book, even if scientific subjects don't look fun. If you do it with your whole heart, you can write about it too! Anyone can read it and re-read it and THAT's the big difference. Often anything written is really being treasured.
You at least have quite a knack for it too and it's always a joy coming here!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  11. Write, Write and just write. Tell her to shut up coz standing outside and watch the scenery is inspiration to weave words. Eli, that's a super creative one:)

  12. Writing allows me to sort through my thoughts and feelings and understand them better. Writing allows me to make sense of the world that's unfolding around me. Writing allows me to process stuff and let it go.

"She" was right all along, you know. All it takes is a start. ;-)

  13. I think the voice is write, I mean right! ;) Just start writing anything and then the words will eventually flow. Have you heard of The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. She refers to writing in the morning first thing to just dump everything - all the ideas and/or guck out - you can time this if you prefer or just do three pages or whatever works for you...the last part is my take on it! ;) And sooner or late, the writing will become smoother and ripple out onto the page or screen.... <3
