- heard that one before?
In case I am what I eat, I guess that makes me pretty much a global mess...
When it comes to food, I am easy. I like most things and I am happy to try new stuff. I enjoy exploring and experimenting both when eating out and when I cook in my own kitchen. A touch of cinnamon in here, some coriander in there and voila: the dish has a whole new flavor. Sometimes better, sometimes not and sometimes just .. different...
But what's with the idlis - you might think? Well, to me, idlis is a perfect example of my favorite kind of food, namely the social sharing kind of food. The kind you can sit and eat of for hours, a part of a social meal where the eating goes in between the talking and laughing.
Just the name idlis makes me smile, thinking of happy idli moments gathered with friends. The sharing kind, like tapas, meze, thali or idlis - like at the Idli House in Mumbai, where they serve mainly, well idlis:-) With all kinds of flavors, spices, chutneys. Sitting there tasting, dipping, talking... What happy moments:-)
And of course it is a big bonus that idlis are healthy food, made of dal/lenthils and rice.
Idlis at the Idli House. YUM:
What food makes you happy? Please share.

DeleteI so love the colourful pictures here. Never realized idlis were so photogenic...lol! I'm a south Indian, so at home we have steaming hot idlis as often as one would have a sandwich. So, when I see people enjoying this fare it leaves me with both pride and wonder, as to how such a simple meal can be relished by different kind of people.

DeleteLOL Eli. I can relate. I am pretty much a global mess when it comes to food habits. I can't say Idli is on my favorite list as being a South Indian I ate it all the time and I guess it lost the charm. Not saying that I don't enjoy it. Nonetheless, your post makes me want some now. :P
ReplyDelete*Shantala @ ShanayaTales*
Hahah - I can imagine. Thanks for sharing Shanaya, happy to see you here:-) Hugs
DeleteSome of the idlis look like doughnuts! Recently, I began eating paleo (hoping to ease Crohn's symptoms) so idlis aren't in my near future. But once things are under control, an occasional treat will be in store. Idlis will be one of them. Right now, anything that makes me feel warm and sated: avocados, coconut milk/oil/water, butter.
